President's Letter

FTYFLUTJQM

Dear JDRF Family,

As we kick off this fiscal year, I am delighted to be on board for another year as the Mid Jersey Chapter President with JDRF and eager to roll up my sleeves and dig even deeper in the search for the cure. The real honor for me is to serve with a talented Board of Directors, an abundance of creative volunteers and a dedicated staff. All of these people are singularly focused on JDRF’s mission … to raise money to find a cure for type 1, or juvenile, diabetes.

Today, everything I read makes me think a cure is just around the corner. I read about the artificial pancreas projects, regeneration cells, encapsulated islet cells … what is taking so long? I know you must be impatient, too. What can we do? That is simple. Raise money to find a cure.

Money is the fuel for the research engine and I am proud that our chapter raised more than $2.2 million last year. The chapter has key fundraising events that generate the majority of these monies. Looking ahead to our fall Walks to Cure Diabetes, I predict this will be one of our most successful seasons ever. It’s time to plan your personal participation, and make sure you are doing more than you ever have before. I ask that each of you make it a personal goal to bring at least two "rookies” to the Walk this year. Remember, the primary reason people do not donate to JDRF is because they are never asked! So redouble your efforts and ask people to become involved. Many staff and volunteers are already hard at work and we could use your assistance. In times like these, we need to rally behind the causes we believe in! In addition to the Walk, many participate in our Crystal Ball Gala, the Golf & Tennis Open, the Ride to Cure, host third party events, bequest money in their wills and make major gifts. Having been involved in JDRF for more than six years now, I am comforted knowing that such a high percentage of the money raised goes to the organization’s mission, finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. This makes JDRF a top provider of research funding.

We certainly hope you enjoyed your summer and back-to-school activities. Please remember to take the time to think about your commitment and how, as a family, JDRF will be an organization that succeeds. The chapter is really us. The mission is ours. The goal is clear. I challenge you to get involved this year like you never have been before.

If you have any questions or want to know how you can get more involved, call the JDRF Mid Jersey Chapter office at (888) 422-9590. Thank you for all you do and all you are about to do. I look forward to your working with you to find a cure!

Warm Regards,

Mike Murphy
