More than 630 guests attended the 15th Annual JDRF Promise Gala “It’s Black & White … A Cure is in Sight” on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the Embassy Suites Omaha LaVista, which raised more than $635,000 for diabetes research.

The event marked the Omaha debut of a new electronic bidding system by BidPal. As guests arrived they received a hand held device that allowed them to conveniently view and bid on auction items from the cocktail area and ballroom. The new device enhanced the guest experience by adding an element of fun and increased silent auction totals by 33 percent over prior years.
Highlights from the evening included a Malone & Company video explaining JDRF’s research progress toward a cure featuring JDRF Research Grant Recipient, Maureen McGargill, and Youth Ambassador, Madeline Mullen. In the live auction, a Super Bowl package sold for $6,750 and Sutton Bay golf outing with private air and overnight accommodations sold for $9,250! Following the live auction, the Fund A Cure video presentation by Malone & Co. featured Daron Smith, JDRF Board Member and President of Better Business Equipment, as he shared his personal experience of living with T1D since diagnosis at the age of 5. His compelling story helped to raise more than $300,000 in Fund A Cure alone. Following the program, guests enjoyed the “Fade to Black” After Party featuring Crazy Keys dueling pianos.
