The Greater
Blue Ridge Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will hold
its Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, in beautiful
downtown
Roanoke, Va. The theme of this years’ Walk is 3D CURE: Daily De-Feet-ing
Diabetes. We invite you to spend a spectacular fall afternoon walking with families,
neighbors, friends and corporate sponsors on a two-mile course that takes you
along the Rail Walk and past the unique architecture in downtown Roanoke. Or
try the one-mile “family friendly” course; either way you’re
guaranteed to enjoy this family friendly event!
The
Greater Blue Ridge Chapter is proud to announce ITT Night Vision as the Presenting
Sponsor for our 2009 Walk to Cure Diabetes. They join our Signature Sponsor,
Advance Auto Parts, in supporting the Walk to make it the biggest and best
ever. Mr. Mike Alvis, vice president of strategy and business development
at ITT, is
leading the way as this year’s corporate chair.
We’re excited to partner once again with the Virginia Museum of Transportation
in downtown Roanoke, where the Walk will begin and end. All walkers and their
families will have access to the museum during registration and after the Walk.
Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and continues until the start of the Walk at
2 p.m. Register early to enjoy the festive atmosphere before the Walk begins.
There will be music, a T-Shirt contest, a Kid’s Corner with face painting,
crafts, 3D chalk and so much more! Join us after the Walk in the Rail Yard behind
the museum for a picnic generously provided by Kroger.
Last
year more than 1,300 walkers took part in the Walk. We hope to have more
than 1,500 participants this year! If you haven’t registered your team
yet, it’s not too late! You can register today at www.jdrf.org or call
the Greater Blue Ridge office at (540) 772-1975 or toll free at 888 849-0510.
Being part of this event is one of the best ways to further JDRF’s mission
to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
So put on your walking shoes and join us at the 2009 Walk to Cure Diabetes!
