Kappa Kidney Camp has relocated to Recreation Unlimited in Ashley, Ohio, beginning with next year’s session. Kappa Kidney Camp 2010 will take place Sunday, June 27 through Friday, July 2.
For 28 years, Kappa Kidney Camp has been providing a weeklong overnight summer camper experience for children ages 8 to 18 who are either on dialysis or have had a kidney transplant.
Our Kappa Kidney Camp campers will be joining the 3,000 individuals Recreation Unlimited currently serves from 44 counties in Ohio and five surrounding states. However, Kappa Kidney Camp will be the only camp using the facilities for the week. This will give us the freedom to maximize the opportunities provided by Recreation Unlimited on their 195-acre, wheelchair accessible property.
“Recreation Unlimited is very excited that Kappa Kidney Camp will be moving their summer camp to our campus,” said Paul Huttlin, executive director and CEO of Recreation Unlimited. “Our goal is that this camp will be the best ever for the campers and our relationship will last for many years.”
Recreation Unlimited is centrally located to better serve all of Ohio’s pediatric nephrology and dialysis units. The facility is located off of exit 140 on Interstate 71. We know our campers’ families will enjoy the travel-friendly location and our nurse volunteers will appreciate the health services and nurses quarters. Also, there are two hospitals and two dialysis units located within 10 miles of Recreation Unlimited.
Kappa Kidney Camp campers will still be able to participate in their favorite activities including canoeing, kickball, fishing and swimming. But will also be able to partake in new activities including on-site miniature golf, outpost camping, a brand new arts and crafts facility, and zero-depth water playground. This move will only create new adventures for our campers and begin new traditions for years to come.
