The spring golf season is quickly approaching. With three tournaments in two
months, this is a busy time for the NKF of Florida but also a rewarding one
as it brings a flow of income that is used to help the patients we serve.
The Naples
Golf Classic, featuring the Rolex Challenge and presented by Bigham Jewelers,
will be Monday, April 6, at the Club at TwinEagles. Naples is followed by the
largest tournament in the country, the Lakeland Golf Classic, on Friday, April
17,
at Lone Palm Country Club. On April 16,
Lone Palm will host Casino Night to kick off the event. And the spring season
wraps up in Miami on Saturday, May 16,
at Doral Golf Resort and Spa. For more information about these golf tournaments,
please contact Bryan at bwilliams@kidneyfla.org.
Central
The Lakeland Patient Conference will be held Saturday, March 28, at Lakeland
Regional Medical Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some of the topics to be covered
are diet, dialysis options, bone disease, finance, Medicare and more. It
is free to patients and lunch is provided. For more information and
to register, please
contact the NKF of Florida office at 1-800-927-9659.
South
The NKF of Florida is lucky to have supporters like 13-year-old Bryan Weismann
who, with help from mom Amy, was able to raise $1,200 by selling raffle
tickets and walking dogs for donations. A lot of effort was put into
the project
as the duo solicited local vendors such as Adanelle’s and Sweet Tomatoes, as well
as an NBA player with a close connection to transplantation, Alonzo Mourning,
who donated an autographed shoe. Bryan chose the NKF of Florida as his Bar Mitzvah
project because his uncle received a kidney transplant two and a half years ago
through the generosity of his wife’s brother (who donated a kidney). The
Weismanns will be emphasizing the importance of organ donation at Bryan’s
Bar Mitzvah, January 24, by distributing green “Choose Life” bracelets
while Bryan tells his uncle’s story.
