NKF Awards Scholarships in Missouri and Kansas

HJMIVHJYLI Carol Polter of Overland Park, Kan., and Brian Crafton of Kirkwood, Mo., were this year’s recipients of the Culpepper Exum Scholarship for People with Kidney Disease. Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to deserving dialysis or transplant patients, one in Kansas and one in Missouri, who are planning to attend an accredited educational program.

Ms. Polter is working on making her “hearts desire” of a second career as an elementary school teacher come true. She is currently working on her associate’s degree and plans to attend Emporia State University to receive her BS in education. Ms. Polter has been on hemodialysis since April 2006.

Mr. Crafton intends on completing a two-year college transfer program at Meramec Community College with an emphasis on art, graphics and media studies. Upon completion, he will continue with his bachelor’s degree. Mr. Crafton was diagnosed with Alport’s Syndrome 10 years ago and has been on dialysis since July 2008.
