140th Anniversary Fund
Aug. 5, 2006, was the 140th anniversary of the founding of St. Teresa’s Academy. To commemorate this birthday and to assist in the Expanding Universes endowment fundraising campaign, more than 140 alumnae and friends each contributed $140 to establish one of the school’s newest endowed funds.

The 140th Anniversary Scholarship Fund provides an annual perpetual scholarship to a student who Administration believes best exemplifies one of the four core values of the school – excellence in education, social justice, assistance to the poor or community stewardship.

Of the more than 140 donors to this new endowed fund, more than 100 were new donors, predominately STA alumnae. Said President Wilson, “To me, this fact alone was one of the most gratifying developments of this new endowed fund. The willingness of so many to give a first-time gift is a measure of how well the alumnae believe in the future of STA.”

One of the donors was Kathleen Aylward Wiedeman, class of 1980, who was selected to present the first scholarship from the new fund. “I am proud to have been asked to be the first to represent all of us who made this scholarship possible,” Kathleen said. “When alumnae combine contributions to assist a student, it provides alum donors of all levels a way to participate in helping these young women become a part of the STA tradition.”

Freshman Mary Ptacek was the recipient of this year’s award. “The more I learn about the history of the Academy,” remarked Mary, “the more I look forward to calling myself an STA alum.”
