Fahey Scholarship Celebrates Family’s Tradition, Commitment

‘‘The girls go to St. Teresa’s.” That has been the mantra of the Fahey family for two generations. Fahey graduates include Liz in 1972; Bridget in 1982; Allison in 1993; Jennifer in 1995; and Julie in 1998. Today, the daughter of Joe and Sue Fahey, Jessica, class of 2008, continues this family tradition.

The family legacy began with Jessica’s grandfather and grandmother, Joseph and Marjorie Fahey. Though Marjorie didn’t attend STA, she and Joseph made sure their daughters did. Their children, Joe, Bridget, Liz and Kevin, decided that a named, endowed scholarship at STA was the best way to honor their parents’ service and sacrifice and the tradition they began.

The Joseph and Marjorie Fahey Scholarship Fund provides an annual scholarship based on a student’s academic performance and/or financial need. “All their lives Mom and Dad believed very deeply in the value-centered character of Catholic education,” Joe Fahey said. “This scholarship is a tribute to their sacrifice for us, and to our family’s ongoing commitment to pass on those same values to future generations.”

Last spring, the Faheys awarded the scholarship to STA freshman Sherie Wallace. “I am very thankful that the Fahey family has made me part of their STA tradition,” Sherie said.

Beyond their generosity to the school’s endowment, the Faheys were key contributors to the Academy’s successful $14 million capital campaign. Joe and Sue Fahey and Kevin and Connie Connell Fahey, class of 1969, were co-chairs and major donors to the Bridging 3 Centuries capital campaign. In 2001, the Faheys were awarded the Teresian Award, the highest honor the school can bestow.
