Untitled Page
It was a heroes welcome to all who attended the Arizona Kidney Foundation’s 10th Annual Children’s Art & Literature Luncheon held Saturday, February 11 at Scottsdale’s Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. With more than 425 guests in attendance, the event celebrated “Our Favorite Heroes” with a special presentation from Astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Tara Hitchcock from KTVK-TV Channel 3 emceed the afternoon, and young dancers from Destiny Dance International provided an inspiring performance set to the music “Holding out for a Hero.”
Families were greeted by some of Arizona’s heroes, the Phoenix Rural Metro Fire Department, local Marvel Comic artists, Scott Kolins and Patrick Scherberger, illustrating their favorite superheroes, and Tucson authors, Jennifer Ward and Jennifer J. Stewart who are both nominees for the Arizona Young Reader’s Award. Featured authors included Astronaut Buzz Aldrin with his recently published children’s book, Reaching for the Moon, and Edith Kunhardt with her heroic novel, Honest Abe.

This annual event celebrates the love of literature and the arts with children of all ages, while helping to raise much needed funds for the Arizona Kidney Foundation. Included in the festivities were interactive presentations by the authors and illustrators, book sales and signings, and a Q&A session with Buzz Aldrin. The day’s event ended with all of the children happily dancing on stage.
