Research Triangle Update

KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and Vice Chancellor Bob Clark cut the ribbon and lead the proceedings at the BEST Building grand opening.

Less than four years after passage, the Johnson County Education Research Triangle (Triangle) initiative produced some defining moments at the KU Edwards Campus.
BEST Grand Opening
The March grand opening of the $23 million, 75,000-square-foot Business, Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST) Building began an exciting new chapter in the life of the campus.
New Bachelor’s in Information Technology
In April the Kansas Board of Regents approved a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) degree to be offered through the School of Engineering. Classes begin in fall 2012. The BSIT is the second new degree program made possible by the Triangle.
The Edwards Campus has offered a master’s degree in IT since 2006. The BSIT is a collaborative effort with Johnson County Community College (JCCC). Students can obtain an associate’s degree at JCCC, followed by a BSIT and an MSIT, both from KU Edwards Campus.
Gateway to Greatness
A new entry monument was completed in May that gives students and visitors to the Edwards Campus a distinctive sense of place. The 54-by-8-foot monument’s unique design reflects the tradition and feel of the Malott Gateway on the Lawrence Campus.
University and Edwards Campus leadership wanted the structure to provide a warm welcome and symbolize the campus’s impact on quality of life in the community.
