Online Resource
If you haven’t visited KREC’s Web site lately, you are not aware that
we’ve added several new features. You can now access your continuing education
information and download many forms from your computer 24/7. We’ve also
added a search feature that allows anyone to verify a licensee’s status
and company affiliation. Our Web site address is <http://www.accesskansas.org/krec>.
Online renewals will be included in our next Web site upgrade. We are in the
early planning stages. We hope that many licensees will use this feature. However,
not every application for renewal can be processed online because there may
be issues that require staff follow-up. We’re working out the details of
what can and cannot be processed online, and hope to launch this feature in
the next six to nine months.
Our goal is to make our Web site as customer friendly as possible for both members
of the public and the industry. If you have any suggestions for additions to
our Web site, please contact us.

Reminder!
Audits Are Not Scheduled in Advance
We have received a couple of complaints that our field auditors have appeared
at a broker’s office to conduct an audit without scheduling an appointment.
This is a reminder that K.A.R. 86-2-8(e) provides that audits may be conducted
without notice to the licensee. This is not to say that we will not reasonably
accommodate a conflict in your schedule. We understand that some brokers do
not practice real estate on a full-time basis and an appointment may be necessary
to avoid wasting everyone's time. The key word is “reasonable.”
Reminder! Four-Month Deadline Applies For Filing New Applications
The commission has recently issued more than the usual number of orders denying
licensure on the basis that the application was filed too late after the applicant
passed a portion of the examination. K.S.A. 58-3039(e) requires an applicant
to file the application for licensure with the commission no later than four
months after the applicant passed any portion of the examination.
For instance, if the applicant passed the general portion of the examination
on June 7, 2003, and the state portion of the examination on July 15, 2003,
the application must be filed with the commission no later than Oct. 7, 2003.
Common reasons for late applications include: (1) a misunderstanding of what
the law requires; (2) the applicant seeks affiliation with a broker immediately
before the filing deadline runs; or (3) the applicant leaves the application
with the broker for signature and filing with KREC and the broker doesn’t
meet the deadline. Remember that the statute places the filing requirement on
the applicant. If the broker has a business practice of filing the application
on behalf of the applicant, contact our office immediately if you think timeliness
may be an issue.
