Checklist For Obtaining a New License By Exam

Due to the increasing number of incomplete applications, KREC licensing staff requests that this checklist be given to license applicants.

Read carefully
Applicants: Please complete the checklist below before mailing your license application to the Kansas Real Estate Commission. Failure to do so could delay the approval of your application. Incomplete applications may be returned.

Please mail the following:
____1. Page 1 (score report) and page 2 (company affiliation information) of the exam sheets

Page 1 must show that you have passed both the General and State exam. If you previously passed one part of the exam but failed the other, the score reports from both exams are required. Your application must be received by the KREC within four months of the earliest exam pass date on the score report or the exam must be taken again.

Page 2 includes the Supervising or Branch Broker’s Statement, which must be signed and dated. Please be sure that the personal information (name, address, phone, etc.) on page 2 matches the information on the application. Please make changes as necessary.

____ 2. The Application for License as a Real Estate Salesperson or Broker
(The application is on the opposite side of the Education Certification you received when you completed the pre-license course.)

Make sure all nine questions have been answered and all requested information has been completed. The application must be signed.

____ 3. All supporting documentation requested on the application
(See Questions 2, 4, 5 and 6). Please include copies of applicable orders,
petitions, complaints, settlement agreements, judgments, charges, orders
of conviction, sentencing, release from probation or parole, INS
documentation, etc.

____ 4. Certificates or history of licensures from any state in which you are
now or have ever been licensed.
(See Question 1). Please send a written request for this document to the
applicable real estate commission(s). Please request that any pre-license
course and exam information be included with the license history.

____ 5. The appropriate fees
Salesperson: The fee for a temporary salesperson is $40 ($15
application fee plus $25 license fee).

Broker: The application fee for a broker is $15. (Upon approval of
the application, KREC licensing staff will notify the applicant of the
appropriate license fee. The license fee will be prorated according to the
first letter of the applicant’s last name.)

Salesperson Applicants:
You may not advertise, show or sell real estate until your broker has received your license.

You may not start the 30-hour salesperson’s post-license course until after you have been issued a license number from the Kansas Real Estate Commission.
